Stay Safe from Job Fraud & Scammers

Job scams are on the rise across India. Fraudsters impersonate employers and recruiters to steal your money and identity. Learn how to spot the warning signs, protect your data, and report suspicious activity — because no legitimate employer ever asks you for money.

The Golden Rule of Job Hunting

A genuine employer pays you — you never pay them. Any job that asks for money, OTPs, card details, or "refundable deposits" at any stage of hiring is a scam. Walk away and report it.

Common Job Scams to Watch Out For

Fraudsters constantly change their tactics. Here are the most common scams reported by job seekers in India.

Fake Job Offer / Advance Fee Scam

Fraudsters post attractive fake jobs, then demand "registration fees", "processing charges", "security deposits" or "training costs" before you can join. Legitimate employers NEVER ask candidates for money.

Phishing via Email / SMS / WhatsApp

Scammers impersonate Jobs-Pedia or real companies, sending links that steal your login credentials, OTPs, bank details or personal data. Always verify the sender address and domain before clicking.

Fake Recruiter / Impersonation

Criminals pose as HR managers, headhunters or company executives using stolen logos and fake email domains. They may conduct fake interviews over WhatsApp or Telegram to build trust before asking for money or documents.

Card / UPI / Bank Fraud

After gaining trust, scammers ask you to share OTPs, card numbers, UPI PINs or "verify" your account. Sharing these details gives them direct access to your money. No employer ever needs your OTP or PIN.

Work-from-Home / Task Scams

"Earn ₹50,000/month from home" offers that start with small paid tasks to build trust, then ask you to invest your own money in "premium tasks" that never pay out. These are advance-fee and task-based frauds.

Document / Identity Theft

Fake employers collect Aadhaar, PAN, passport or bank statement copies "for onboarding", then misuse them for loans, SIM swaps or other fraud. Only share documents with verified, legitimate employers.

How to Identify a Scammer

Run this checklist before you share any personal or financial information with an employer.

🚩 Red Flags — Likely a Scam

  • Job offer received without any interview or skill assessment.
  • Employer asks you to pay any kind of fee — registration, processing, security deposit, training, or "refundable" charges.
  • Salary or package that sounds unrealistically high for the role and experience level.
  • Recruiter communicates only through WhatsApp, Telegram or personal email (Gmail/Yahoo) instead of a company domain.
  • Interview conducted only via text chat, with no video call or company verification.
  • You are asked to share OTPs, UPI PINs, CVV, bank passwords or card numbers.
  • Pressure tactics: "This offer expires today", "Pay now or lose the job", or threats of legal action.
  • Job posting or email contains spelling errors, poor grammar, or mismatched company logos.
  • You are asked to deposit money to "unlock" a task, "activate" an account, or receive a "joining bonus".
  • The company has no verifiable website, address, phone number, or online presence.
  • You are asked to buy equipment or software from a specific "vendor" they recommend.
  • The offer letter is not on official company letterhead and has no HR contact details.

✅ Green Flags — Legitimate Employer

  • The employer has a verified company profile on Jobs-Pedia with a real website and registered address.
  • The interview process includes proper video calls, technical assessments and HR discussions.
  • All communication happens through official company email domains and verified phone numbers.
  • The offer letter is on official letterhead with clear salary, role, and joining details.
  • No money is ever requested at any stage of the hiring process.
  • You can verify the recruiter on LinkedIn and the company on official registries.
